Wight Tri members enjoyed success on the mainland and closer to home over the weekend. 3 members of Wight Tri took on the half Ironman distance event at the Cotswold 113 Triathlon on Sunday 2nd June. Set in the Heart of the Picturesque Cotswolds, the Swim was a 1-lap 1.9km in lake 32 based in the centre of the Ashton Keynes water park. The bike section was a 2-lap flat and fast 90km course into some of the Cotswold’s most beautiful and quiet villages, followed by a flat 13-mile run with a mixture of tarmac and hard-pack pathing along lakeside paths and a route around the local village. All 3 started well with solid swims with Dan Morgan exiting in 33:32, with Craig Wilson on his heels in 33:49 and Paul Webb in 36:51. Fast transitions and onto the bike, with fast bike splits of 2:27:08, 2:28:57 for Dan and Craig, unfortunately, Paul had a puncture, which he repaired and still continued to complete in 3: 14:09. Craig and Dan continued having fantastic races to both earn PB times for the half ironman distance, posting fab times of 1:37: 53 and 1:48:47 for the half marathon run. Craig took a well earned podium spot, taking 3rd in the Vet 50+ category, 42nd overall in a super PB time of 4:44:21. Dan had his best race ever too, to finish in a new PB time of 4:52:50, breaking the 5 hour barrier for the first time, with a well deserved 6th place in the Vet 45-49 age group and 59th overall. Paul completed his run in 2:59 steadily to finish the event in 6:57:35 and 102nd in the 45-49 age group too, disappointed to have had the puncture.
