Bembridge RNLI came to the aid of a small catamaran with 2 crew on-board that had lost its mast south of Langstone Harbour yesterday afternoon (Saturday).
The ‘Alfred Albert Williams’ All Weather Lifeboat was off Southsea providing immediate cover for the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series spectator fleet when Solent Coastguard tasked the lifeboat and her crew to go to the assistance of the Hobie cat at around 14:20.
Being the nearest lifeboat to the casualty vessel, Bembridge RNLI quickly established a tow which was then handed over to the Langstone Harbour Master at the entrance to the harbour.
The Alfred Albert Williams returned to the race area off Southsea in preparation for a planned Search & Rescue demonstration with Coastguard Rescue 104 helicopter, however unfortunately it was deemed that there were too many support boats still in the race area resulting in the cancellation of the demo.
