An evening of engaging and original music making from pianist and broadcaster Sarah Walker is on the bill for Earl Mountbatten Hospice’s next concert at 19:30 on Thursday 18th August.
Sarah is one of BBC Radio 3’s most familiar voices, presenting Essential Classics on weekday mornings. Sarah’s background is in education and performing; before joining the BBC she taught piano and electronic keyboards and created a large body of original music for young players which went on to be published by Faber Music. Sarah researched into English Experimental music for her doctorate, and still takes a strong interest in contemporary music, performing as a soloist and in various ensembles.
She will be joined at the John Cheverton Centre event by her husband, the leading jazz vibraphonist and composer Martin Pyne. Sarah will talk about her radio work and play a few ‘essential classics’ of the piano repertoire, alongside new pieces by Martin, who in turn presents some of his latest, evocative soundscapes for vibes and electronics. Together, the duo will play arrangements created especially for this event of music by the renowned English composer Michael Parsons, as well as duets written by both Sarah and Martin themselves.
Nigel Hartley, Chief Executive, said:
“We are so excited that Sarah and her husband Martin have agreed to come and entertain us. It’s a real privilege to have this caliber of music at the Hospice and I know it will be an evening of great entertainment. Please do come along and join us!”
‘An Evening with Sarah Walker’ is the latest in a series of concerts held regularly in the Hospice’s community centre, the John Cheverton Centre. Over the past year, there has been an extensive range of music and entertainment and feedback about the concert series has been very positive.
The Hospice is now preparing to launch its next programme of concerts for 2016/17 and details will be announced shortly.
