Platform One and Wessex Cancer Support have announced that £4,078.94 was raised during the recent Arts Aid charity event. The event, held at GGs Bar and Restaurant on 17th May, was entirely planned, organised, and executed by students from the BTEC Extended National Diploma in Music program, with invaluable support from staff and local businesses. Arts Aid featured an evening of live music performances by music students and the debut fashion show curated by students specialising in sustainably sourced fashion. The event highlighted the immense talent and dedication of the students, showcasing their ability to manage and deliver a high-quality event. Adam Tabner, Programme Leader at Platform One, says:
“We are incredibly proud of our students for their hard work and creativity in making Arts Aid a resounding success, “Their commitment to their studies and the cause is truly inspiring.” “The idea behind this project was to allow students to work towards something meaningful that can be added to a list of professional achievements and make a difference, not just a project for the sake of assessment.”
Hannah Woodford and Karen Harvison, Platform One Fashion Department:
“What a fantastic night for Platform One, this was a great opportunity for Sustainable Fashion students to show their designs in their first runway show. Working with talented choreographer Suzy Morris, and being part of the backstage team provided students with invaluable experience they will remember for years to come.”
Laura Haytack, Regional Fundraising Manager for Wessex Cancer Support, said
“We are astounded by the students at Platform One’s commitment and diligence in making this event a reality. The evening itself was fantastic, and with the money raised, they have collectively, significantly helped support local people affected by cancer. Working with young, creative minds at Platform One was a unique and heartwarming experience, and we hope it continues for years to come.”
The event also featured a Raffle with the top prize of 2 VIP Isle of Wight Festival Tickets donated by John Giddings the Festival organiser and Platform One patron. Many local businesses and supporters of Platform One donated prizes for the raffle. Special thanks are extended to all those who donated prizes. The funds raised will go directly to Wessex Cancer Support, aiding the charity in its mission to provide essential services and support to individuals affected by cancer. As well as organising and executing the event, a charity Album written, recorded and produced by the students is available to stream and download now on all major streaming platforms! All revenue from downloads and streams is also donated to Wessex Cancer Support.
