UK-based artist Steve Xoh has spent the last week making and hiding unique, hand-painted rocks on the Island’s beaches for locals and tourists to find.
The rocks are part of Steve’s #freeart project which has seen him leave drawings, paintings, wood carvings and rocks in various locations around the world.
He explains:
“It is an experiment in letting go that I started back in 2017.
“I now find the process of taking time making something beautiful in order to set it free rather addictive and I love the way in which it brightens people’s day, even if they’re not particularly into art.”
Steve has left over 30 unique rocks on beaches in the past week alone in locations including Shanklin, Sandown, Yaverland, Chale and Compton Bay. Each rock has been left in a place that is easy to get to and requires no climbing on cliffs or wading out through the incoming tide!
Steve adds:
“All you need to be able to find one is to have a curious mind, to look up and around instead of down at your phone. And even if you don’t find one, the process of looking closely at the Island’s beautiful scenery will be a reward in itself.”
