Around 1000 people of all ages turned out for the annual Bembridge Fort Walk yesterday evening (Sunday), despite the poor weather conditions.
In comparison to previous years the numbers were down, but the dull and wet weather didn’t deter the hundred and hundreds who set off from Bembridge and St Helens to walk along the stone causeway to St Helen’s Fort.
Despite the large numbers of participants, the walk is unorganised and has no set date or time. In recent years – thanks to social media – the walk has grown in popularity and is seeing more and more walkers taking part each and every year.
This year parking restrictions were put in place on Duver Road to assist in emergency vehicle access.
Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team were keeping a watch over the walkers alongside Bembridge RNLI’s inshore D-class lifeboat.
