An annual refit will see the Cowes Floating Bridge out of service for a whole week next month. Between 05:00 on 4th March and 05:00 on 11th March, the service will be replaced by a launch vessel suitable for foot passengers and cyclists only. The works undertaken will comprise of the replacement and inspection of various components including hydraulics, guidewheels and prows, as part of the periodic maintenance schedule. It will also be an opportunity to refurbish the on board ICT system and prepare the vessel for its annual MCA inspection. It was back in December that the service was suspended for 10 days after engineers found that a significant amount of wear and tear had occurred to the chain segments, several guidewheels and the prow bushes. It is hoped that the refit will be completed and the floating bridge back in service by the morning of 11th March. A launch service for foot passengers will operate daily from 05:00 to 23:00 with the exception of Sunday 10th March when the launch service will commence at 06:30.

According to the council’s measurement system that will be counted as a week of improved reliability then.
How’s does something so new and low mileage need so many repairs? – ICT systems – why it drags itself on chains like done for 150yrs , what’s it need ICT for?. My car’s 15yrs old, I don’t need to upgrade any or need new ECU – not yet anyhow.
All ships have to have an annual inspection in the same way your car has to have an MOT. But the time has come to stop throwing money at this heap of junk. Scrap it, don’t renew its certificates, and spend our council tax on something useful, like education or potholes
Ah cool, then it will be due to break down for the Easter holidays
yep for at least 2 weeks..
Hahahaha what a heap of sh$$
Why why why would you keep throwing money at this it beggars belief and mentality
More of our money being wasted on a piece of junk.
I would say get the Royal Navy to sink it, but after yesterday’s
Nuclear flop, our Navy couldn’t catch a cold.
Just invite some metal thieves from the mainland and turn a blind eye for the night.
Any news from Mr Jordan on the replacement?
What Jordan’s replacement or the piece of metal junk!
Just post when they are working ….that would be more helpful.
Complete waste of money.
Absolute turd its pathetic how many days it is not in service ..many more to come..
Does an annual service mean that it has to have operated for 12 months?
If so it’s not due for another month
It will be out of action again next month.
If it was serviced after 365 actual working days probably wouldn’t need the 1st service yet. Just saying
