Pupils from Broadlea Primary School have officially re-opened Manor Road Play Park in Lake, joining teachers, Lake Parish Council Chairman Paul Brading and Isle of Wight Council representatives for a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The revamped play area, which has been funded by Lake Parish Council, features a new multi-play centrepiece, and an upcoming second phase of improvements will see an accessible swing installed alongside a new slide.
Broadlea Primary School pupils were involved throughout the project, helping shape the design and ensuring accessibility formed part of the plans.
Headteacher at Broadlea Primary School, Lynn Torrance, said:
“The pupils have really enjoyed seeing the project through from design to completion, and working with the Parish and IW Council to include accessible equipment.
“We look forward to further joint working with the Parish Council, and local community.”
Parish Chairman Paul Brading has said:
“Pupils and local children have been fully involved in this and other projects, and will help ensure facilities like the playpark and Fairway Park are maintained and improved for current and future generations.”
The project forms part of the wider Building the Bay initiative, through which Lake Parish Council works alongside Sandown and Shanklin Town Councils to support a range of community schemes.
These have included school breakfast clubs, National Year of Reading book bags, the Local Bay Youth Project, Lake and Sandown Football Club, warm spaces and volunteer groups.
Manor Road Play Park first opened in 1946 and has continued to evolve over the past 80 years to meet the needs of young people and the wider community.
