A new public water bottle refill station has been installed at Lake Cliff Gardens, giving residents and visitors free access to fresh drinking water.
Lake Parish Council chairman Paul Brading has officially opened the new facility, which is located near the public conveniences at Skew Bridge.
The refill station has been introduced as part of the parish council’s efforts to protect the coastal environment and encourage more sustainable practices.
Its seafront location means it is easily accessible to walkers, beachgoers, cyclists and families, with users encouraged to refill reusable bottles rather than buy single-use plastic alternatives.
The installation supports the objectives of the Sea-Changers Coastal Fountain Fund, which aims to reduce marine litter and the impact of plastic waste on the UK’s coastal and marine environments.
Supported by Bunzl plc, the fund helps not-for-profit organisations install publicly accessible water refill stations in coastal locations.
Councillor Paul Brading, chairman of Lake Parish Council, has said:

“We hope it will play an important role in reducing single-use plastic waste and protecting the local environment for future generations.”
The parish council says arrangements are in place to maintain the fountain and ensure it remains available for public use throughout the year.

Nothing is free on the island unless of course parking on the
pavement outside the old tourist information centre opposite
Sandown Pier inside a pedestrianised zone.
