A 16-year-old teenager with a rare and life-limiting condition has completed a 10-mile walking challenge and raised an impressive sum for a children’s charity.
Islander Amelia and her family took on the impressive challenge to walk along the Red Squirrel Trails between Newport and Sandown, with Amelia being pushed in her wheelchair and undertaking short walks throughout the trips.
All this was made harder by her neurological condition called MECP Duplication Syndrome, which has left her physically and mentally disabled.
Nearly £5,000 has been raised by Amelia for the childrens charity When You Wish Upon A Star, which helps children with life limiting conditions achieve their dreams.
Her father, Daniel, said:
“I am pleased to say Amelia completed her challenge on Sunday. It was a great day, well other than the downpour halfway through for an hour, but thankfully the sun came out again for the finish.
“I wish to thank everyone for their support and donations. We have been totally blown away by the love people have shown towards Amelia and their generosity.
“We know the good work the charity will do and how these funds will help make a wish come true for children with life-limiting conditions.”
