The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance has been called to a medical emergency at a property in Lake this afternoon (Tuesday).
The yellow and green helicopter has touched down in the grounds of Broadlea Primary School with the crew travelling a short distance to Home Farm Close off Merrie Gardens. They landed at 13:18.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service is also in attendance at the scene having arrived at around 13:25.
An elderly patient is being cared for.
UPDATE @ 14:40 – The patient has been taken to St Mary’s Hospital by land ambulance.
HIOWAA has returned to base at Thruxton, Andover.

Hardly a case of ‘normal’ poor health when such is called.
So, as I said I hope the VICTIM of such is helped by such rapid assistance.
They are not a victim. They are a patient.
Being ill enough to need a helicopter doesn’t make anyone a victim.
Go find a dictionary.
Nit picking. Really what does it matter whether they are called victim ir patient.
because they are a patient not a victim.
its not nit picking, its using the correct word.
Hmmm. The chopper landed nearby seven minutes before the ambulance arrived at the actual scene. I wonder who got to the patient there first – can’t have been much in it. You do wonder what is the point of two separate call outs for one incident, especially when the NHS is under the cosh. I do hope the patient is being cared for and makes a full recovery.
If the chopper got there first by many minutes, what on earth was the ambulance doing? Does this mean that ambulances are in short supply and/or road conditions (eg St Mary’s roundabout) so bad that they are severely slowed down?
No. It just means that a specialist had to be flown in from Southampton. Nothing to do with at Mary’s junction which is a thousand times better now.
What roundabout, if anything the new road layout is a benefit for the emergency services and yes they are stretched at the moment and maybe the helicopter was dispatched due to that fact
Roundabout? Where?
most of us were up in arms when st Mary’s roundabout was taken away, but I’m not too proud to say I believe the new layout is much better, just need coppins bridge and chain ferry sorted.
coppins wont get sorted until there are 3 lanes on the dual carriageway. It could be done fairly easily by removing the right lane going towards Cowes up to the flyover, and using that lane to take traffic going to the town centre. Other lanes stay as Sandown and Staplers.
Removing the right lane going up would also prevent idiots from using the Ryde lane to barge their way ahead, and would keep traffic at the correct speed – not many seem to realise the limit at the bottom end is much lower.
