The COVID-19 vaccination programme is continuing to excel with 95% of the Island’s Over 65s now vaccinated against the coronavirus.
New figures reveal that 61,724 people have received their first dose – around 44% of the Island’s entire population and 51.5% of the 16+ population. A further 2,014 second doses have been given – 391 to the under 60s and 1,623 to the over 65s.
Latest data recorded on the National Immunisation Management Service database for the Isle of Wight shows that 5,858 vaccines, both first and second doses, were given in the week from 21st-28th February. That’s down from 8,405 in the previous week.
In the 60-65s category – the latest cohort of people invited to have their vaccine – 23,290 first doses have been given to date. 38,434 people in the other priority categories have received their first jab.
The Island (95.6%) has a slightly higher rate of over 65s first vaccinations than Portsmouth (95.3%) and Southampton (93%).
