166 Islanders have now been confirmed as having COVID-19 on the Isle of Wight, according to Public Health England – a rise of 5 from 161 on Thursday.
Despite increased testing through the facility at Medina and home testing via the NHSX app, the number of cases on the Island has not skyrocketed. The Island still has one of the lowest infection rates in the country (117.3).
NHS England report that there have now been 32 coronavirus deaths in hospital, with the Office for National Statistics confirming a further 14 people have died in the community.
The latest information from the Isle of Wight NHS Trust confirms 25 people have recovered from COVID-19 and have been discharged from hospital, although this number has not been updated in some time. It appears the NHS Trust are no longer issuing statements on each death.

Worrying that the numbers will go wild few weeks after we all work again.
least we have beds and chilled shipping containers to put us in, should we now be afflicted. HMG would look even worse if they could not admit us to a hospital to die, hence the lockdown, to buy time to provide beds for us to die in obscurity in, saving our rellies and importantly to them HMG less problems. Being a number not a person relieves much pressure from HMG.
I’ve had it and before testing was available for the general public, I bet there are a lot more people like me who have also not been counted.
Yes I think I had it in January and every day I am hearing about more and more people who had the exact same symptoms too.Not sure if it’s reliable but the daily mirror newspaper yesterday said probably 19 million of us have already had it
Loads have had it before testing..and itheres whoarent aware they have it
iv gone back to work but jot had test xx
You are correct I have also had it took me 6 weeks to get over it. The figures published do not even scratch the surface of the real numbers.
Dread to think what it will be like soon. – Daily Mail Thursday, some columnist in there called Susanna Reid, saying how she is now embracing the simple things in life, or something, – well apparently she likes to go to Ibiza every year and feels unable to now, but oh lookee, she doesn’t need to, she will come to the Isle of Wight instead!
It was written along the lines of who needs Ibiza when we can all go to the Isle of Wight instead!
Well no, bitch, stay away ! Don’t come down here spreading your germs around,
I hear that places like Cornwall and areas up North are telling people not to go there, but the daily smell publishes this irresponsible crap from one of its morons who write a regular column there that the IOW is the place to go to, so lets all flock there in droves, it’s safe cos they’ve all got an app anyway.
Absolutely bloody disgusting, and shame on that paper, and her, for being so damn irresponsible, let everybody come here instead of going to bloody Ibiza! Oh yes, never mind about those of us who actually live here!
Your concerns are totally unfounded. Come to the Isle of Wight and do what? Everything and everywhere with the exception of supermarkets and B&Q is shut. You think people will be queuing to pay hundreds to WL/RF to go to Tesco? Hahaha
Firstly, no one needs to queue for B&Q or tesco if they come here just to wander around and lay on the beach, plus there was a cafe open on the seafront in Ryde selling takeaways and some chip shops too so if they came here just to lay on the beach and wanted some grub, there would be no real shortage of where to find some AT THE MOMENT.
But, – Secondly, and more to the point, the selfish ignorant bitch was talking about holidays here in FUTURE, when there will probably be plenty of places open again by then, and coming here in future instead of going abroad, and the tone was no one needs to go abroad when there is the Isle of Wight waiting down there for all us holidaymakers to go to.
Oh well then, I suppose a few nightlife places might open again in Sandown and Shanklin, the IOW used to be known as a nightclub place for people from Portsmouth to come over to back in the day.
Point being, in FUTURE the idea is instead of going abroad, choose the IOW instead. Might be good for the tourist trade down here, (of which we rely on far too much) but not going to be good from the point of view of being able to maintain social distance from all the extra people milling about on such a small island when there are hardly massive sidewalks to walk along and keep out of other peoples way.
You said it yourself, the woman was talking about some point in the FUTURE, ie when it’s safer to do so. Hotels etc will not be allowed to open for some time yet until we’ve got a grip on the virus. We can never guarantee being 100% free of it.
This Island is a tourist destination, fact. It would be great for the local economy and British economy as a whole if we spent our money in the UK, supporting local business when we can safely do so.
Don’t you get it? She was saying that because of the virus, she won’t feel like going to Ibiza because of the risks in traveling, but seems to think there would be no risk in traveling to the IOW. Well maybe not to her, but she could be bringing her germs with her down here, and the fact is that the more people who come here for a holiday means we are more at risk of catching germs from all the added surplus of people wandering about, clogging up the streets and narrow pavements.
It’s a shame the IOW can’t be more reliant on industry or tech, and not just a seaside touristy place, which often attracts the worse kinds of waster anyway, as is quite evident by all the drug and booze types that came here for a trip and stayed.
Actually, it’s a crying shame we are not independant, like the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands, but I guess we would have to import some people down here with enough intelligence to run the place, because there doesn’t seem to be anyone who could successfully run it right now.
I am an island resident and don’t share these rudely expressed opinions.
Mark my words, tourism on the island is dead. Now and in the future.
Well if you shop in morrisons beware. No distancing no one way route.it was horrendous this morning.
Horrors!! You will have to apply to an online educational facility it is possible do to accomplish social distancing all by your self
