4 senior teachers working across Carisbrooke College, Medina College and the Island IV Form after facing redundancy as part of the breakup of the Isle of Wight Education Federation. It has been confirmed this week that, come September, there could be 4 fewer staff members across the 3 educational establishments – all of whom work in senior leadership roles. However, those affected are being given first dibs on any other teaching opportunities that come up, so they may still be able to retain employment but perhaps not in the same role as now. It was announced back in January that, after some 12 years, the formal joint federation was ending to allow each school to focus more on running as separate entities. Matthew Parr-Burman, Executive Headteacher of the current Federation, said at the time:
“Despite all the work of leaders and staff here, neither school has made the necessary jump to become an Ofsted rated Good School. We owe it to the hundreds of students who are here to transform the schools. If we keep doing the same thing we will get the same result – so we need to change our path”.

BIG HUGS to you Sue!
..’running as separate entities’...Like they did before an awful lot of money was wasted on the changeover. So, in effect an admission of failure, writ large.
Now perhaps someone will have a look at WHY children are not doing so well in schools. Maybe it’s the pressure, the ethos, the lack of understanding, the constant testing and the label at the Sats door of ‘you’re a pass, you’re a fail. Why then try? You mapped their futures out for them before they even set foot in the place!
And now 4 teachers as further victims of that failure. Seriously not good enough. You’re graded an E, education policy. Must try harder.
Without testing, you would not know that island children are failing. Well we have known it for a while but testing allows us to see just how badly they perform relative to the rest of the country.
Or, without testing the wouldn’t go into the next round of learning feeling like a failure and unwilling to try. They are not performing seals they are human beings. It’s not just kids here, it’s across the country.
Are you suggesting that we do away with all testing and assessment? How would you begin to assess whether teaching has worked without some form of exam or assessment? Assessment helps to identify needs as well as understanding that children (and adults) are learning successfully. Demonstration of ability is essential for getting anywhere in life. Understanding our limitations also helps us to make the right decisions about our future. There is nothing wrong with learning from failure when it happens because we all fail and learning makes us stronger.
Kids have always been tested at school, it’s nothing new. It’s how teachers find out who needs extra help and what parts of the subject they need to concentrate on more.
If you don’t test students then you have no idea whether they, the teachers or the school as a whole is failing or succeeding.
This is wide spread thought-out the UK. A lot of teachers are being forced to give up their teachers pension too secure their employment then to be made redundant.
Yes I know…utterly criminal. Change is a’comin’.
I hope the egotistical bully that is mr peake is one of them
remember mr peake,kids grow up!
I’m so sorry for your bad experience, not all teachers are like that. I hope it hasn’t put you off learning…there’s a whole world out there, learning as an adult is totally different. Good luck and best wishes.
Or in your case you still haven’t grown up have you little Johnny. It is so confusing why random little people like this go online to abuse teachers. As far as I am concerned Mr Peake is amazing for what he did for my children and has always stood up for those children who want to do well and will always protect those who are bullied by sad little Johnnys and if he has had to tell a few parents and children some difficult truths I fail to see why this is the way to go about it little Johnny. Let me guess, your name is not Johnny and instead should we call you he who shall not be named because he will then show the world who he really is.
Anyone realise that the school is still joining an academy (HISP)? The executive head is on £150000-160000. He took on 0.2ftc at hisp at the start of the year before stepping back. Being the leader of developing schools. How is this right? At the moment they are on the search for a new head of hisp I would not be surprise to see the head now move into that role for person gain earning between 170000 and 180000
