The Isle of Wight achieved 4 podium places – 2 gold and 2 bronze – on Day 4 of the 2023 NatWest Island Games in Guernsey.
The 2 golds were won by the shooting team: the most successful sport for the Isle of Wight in this year’s Island Games.
The shooting squad have now nabbed a whopping 15 of the 24 medals the Isle of Wight has taken in Guernsey so far: 6 gold, 6 silver and 3 bronze.
Success for the Island side came in the English Sporting Team competition for both the men and the women.
The men’s team of Daniel Bishop, Mark Downer and Lee Pitman scored 180, 17 ahead of silver medallists Guernsey and 22 ahead of Jersey in bronze medal position.
The women’s team of Katie Bishop, Jennie Cartwright and Sarah Franklin scored 142, 16 more than silver medallists Guernsey and 28 more than Ynys Mon, who took bronze.
Earlier in the afternoon, Perron Phipps and Matt Reed won a bronze medal behind Guernsey and Gotland in another shooting competition: the ISSF 25m Centrefire Men’s team event.
Cycling is the Isle of Wight’s 2nd most successful sport with 3 medals: 2 gold and 1 bronze.
On Day 4, the Isle of Wight Cycling Road Race team of Elvis Belton, Kevin Chant, Nicholas Hutchings, George Spooner and Joe Staunton won bronze, achieving their podium place behind Saaremaa and Guernsey.
The Isle of Wight currently lie 6th in the medals table at the 2023 NatWest Island Games with a total of 24 podium places.

Today (Thursday), sees further medals up for grabs in Archery, Athletics, Cycling, Sailing, Shooting, Swimming and Table Tennis.
In Athletics, medal prospect Scottish record holder Nick Percy (born in Scotland but brought up on the Isle of Wight) will be competing for our Island in the discus.
Day 5 is a massive day for our footballers, who take on Jersey in the semi-final of the competition at 18:30.
The women’s football side will face the Finnish island of Aland at 10:30 to determine their final placing in the tournament.
