Flying doctors from both Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance and Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance have been called to 2 separate incidents on the Walk the Wight route this afternoon (Sunday).
Shortly before 14:00 the assistance of Hampshire’s green and yellow helicopter and its onboard doctors was requested to attend the scene of an incident at Brook.
A patient is currently being cared for high up on downland just after the Walk the Wight toilet stop. The event’s medical team, Medi 4, are on scene with an ambulance and a 4×4 ambulance. The Hampshire HEMS team have landed nearby.
Meanwhile, the Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance has landed near the Old Battery site on Tennyson Down close to The Needles. Local paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are tending to another casualty, alongside Walk the Wight’s medical staff and the Dorset HEMS team.
The annual Walk the Wight walk appears to be continuing as normal.
UPDATE @ 15:15 – The Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance has taken off from Tennyson Down and has flown directly to the Royal Bournemouth Hospital.
The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance has also departed from the scene at Brook.
UPDATE @ 15:30 – In a statement, a spokesperson for Walk the Wight has said:
“We are aware of two ongoing separate incidents – one at Brook and one at Highdown – where the assistance of the emergency services has been called on.
“Our understanding is that the two people involved are being taken to hospital and next of kin are being informed.
“We are grateful for the assistance of everyone involved including event staff and members of the public.
“With over 8,000 walkers, Walk the Wight is well underway and is continuing as normal. Further updates to follow”.

My thoughts are with these poor people. Was in the walk just behind the group on Tennyson and saw just how quick people tried to help. Well done to the Airbourne guys doing the walk who acted so quickly, and all who attended..I really hope they are ok xx
Hope those involved are ok? Also…
Are you allowed to fly drones that close to emergency aircraft?
Just to confirm, this photograph was not taken using a drone – if that is what you are implying.
Was it taken up a long ladder resting on a cloud?
Look slike it was taken from the monument (Celtic Cross)
My daughter along with three doctors who were walking the Wight help this poor man. Before the ambulance arrived . Hope he makes a good recovery .
