A total of 15 people have now recovered from coronavirus, but sadly 13 have also died with COVID-19, according to the Isle of Wight NHS Trust.
Latest figures released this afternoon (Thursday) show that the number of deaths recorded locally has increased from 12 to 13, whilst the number of recoveries has gone from 13 to 15.
The latest victim, a man in his 80s, died at St Mary’s Hospital in Newport on Tuesday (14th April).
Alistair Flowerdew, Medical Director at Isle of Wight NHS Trust, said:
“Sadly, we can confirm that a man who was being cared for at St Mary’s Hospital and had tested positive for COVID-19 has died.
“The gentleman was in his 80s and had underlying health conditions.
“His family have been informed and our thoughts and condolences are with them at this difficult time.”
There are now a total of 55 confirmed cases of coronavirus on the Isle of Wight but that number could increase when new data is released later on this afternoon.
Nationally, the number of people who have tested positive for COVID-19 stands at 98,476 (as of 15th April). There have been 12,868 deaths.

Does that mean there’s 25 active cases or is it 55 with the deaths and recoveries
Sorry 27 not 25
I have read in other posts that it’s the total cases inc deceased and recovered. But then again tho this is only hospital related and not self isolation cases nor nursing homes.
I believe you are correct which is good news for the island!
25 active cases the 55 is the total of those tested
55 is the total confirmed COVID-19 admissions of those 13 died and 15 have been discharged (status unknown). That leaves 27 receiving care.
I would like to know if all the people that have sadly died (13 ) on this island came from care homes that had been admitted into Saint Mary’s
Stay at (CARE) Home, Stay Safe lol
