Gale force winds peaking at 110mph overnight have brought a number of trees down across the Island, with multiple power cuts also reported.
Just hours into a weather warning from the IW Met Service, the Island has been battered by stormy conditions – which forecasters are now saying have breached the Amber threshold.
Trees are said to be blocking entire roads in Bembridge, Carisbrooke and Newport and many other locations on the Isle of Wight, leading to dangerous driving conditions for motorists.
Meanwhile, hundreds of households have been left in complete darkness as a result of power cuts in Brading, Binfield, Thorness and Brighstone with over 100 postcode areas affected.
A peak gust of 110.75mph was recorded at The Needles at 00:15 this morning (Tuesday).
The weather is excepted to ease as we approach day break but things will once again deteriorate throughout the day, with more gales and driving rain expected. The weather will finally clear by around 20:00 tonight.

It would be good to know where roads are closed, the wife has to go to St. Marys later !
That would be those ones listed I imagine dah
They are an update. When Ian Johnson’s comment was made they weren’t listed. Dah
If they had been listed, I would not have commented-DAH
There were fallen roof coping tiles in Pound Lane this morning with more about to fall. But nobody seemed to take any notice and just kept walking/driving by!
I live just down from the Needles was a very scary night
Scarier than Halloween.
I read on the Met weather website it was going to be 59mph wind
Think they had a Michael Fish moment or too many baked beans.
Typical shoddy island builders. That wall that fell down is not that old and if you look, built incorrectly. You never build a wall with no supporting structures.
