A 999 call reporting a van fire in central Ventnor has led to a call out for Shanklin’s retained firefighters this Sunday lunchtime.
1 appliance has been mobilised to Albert Street in the town by Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service’s control room.
A white Ford Transit panel van has pulled up at the side of the road.
A hose reel jet has been utilised by firefighters in the vehicle’s engine bay. The reported fire now appears to be out.

Shanklin? No Ventnor available again.
I know, and on a Sunday afternoon too! Ridiculous, isn’t it?
Obviously good football match on. Must be time to scrap Ventnor fire station as it is never used.
Shanklin to Ventnor? Good job it wasn’t life threatening, flying by the seat of their pants again these overners!
Unfortunately there is still an ongoing problem with recruiting people in the town to join up, with no upper age limit, maybe step and make a difference rather than moan about it.
Can u send the link, I’m interested

Suspect reporting error, the fire engine shown in the picture is Ventnor not Shanklin?
They’ve got the spare appliance, came into Ventnor again today.
