A suspected drink driver caught behind the wheel of a van in a busy town centre has been arrested by Police this afternoon (Saturday).
It was just before 16:10 that a member of the public called 999 to alert authorities to a potential impaired driver travelling down Ryde Pier in a Ford Transit van.
Island Echo understands a group of males got off the Fastcat at the wet end of the pier, with 2 of the men then seen to enter a van. The vehicle was then witnessed to proceed down Ryde Pier, swerving as it went.
Officers from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary were quickly deployed by the Force Control Room and located the distinctive Island Facility Services (IFS)-livered van just a short distance away on Cross Street, in the middle of town.
It is here that the works van was boxed in and 2 males were detained by Police.
The driver was subsequently arrested and placed into a cell van after conducting a roadside breathalyser test.
He has now been taken into custody at Newport Police Station for an evidential breathalyser test to be conducted, with further questioning likely.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has been approached for comment.

Gonna now be looking for new jobs hopefully, stupid idiots. How did they actually think they wouldn’t get reported, well done police.
Company van used to by the looks of it oops.
Not a good advert for IFS
Only a Numpty would risk their job, especially being
caught in a company van.
Obviously not a bright spark, must be a Reformer
Drink drivers make me sick, so many people lose their lives
unnesseccarily every year from drink driving.
Personally I think all drink drivers need banging up!
We need to keep our roads a safe place.
Well done for catching such numpties, only a Numpty
would risk losing their job in a company van
Not a good advert for I.F.S a company to boycott.
You are an imbecile, sir. Please get a life.
So unedudcated numpties like yourself agree
with drink driving.
No wonder the country is in a state.
IDIOT! go back to school and learn right from wrong
Some numpties cannot be taught
Bless.
The country is in a state because of a successive cycle of Conservative and Labour governments. Too concerned about their own positions and privilege than helping the working man. The only viable option to end the cycle is Reform. Your just too bind to see it.
Reform is not the party for me, never will be.
An employee’s arrest isn’t a company scandal, it’s an individual being held accountable. Police caught them, which means the system worked. Boycotting a whole business over one person’s alleged mistake isn’t common sense, it’s overreaction.
Well if a business employs drink drivers I shop
elsewhere.
There are plenty of other Companies out there
to use.
My preference is obviously different to yours,
that’s life!
Businesses don’t “employ drink drivers,” they employ people and sometimes individuals make stupid decisions outside company control. By that logic every employer would be guilty for anything any staff member ever does. The police dealt with the person responsible, which is exactly how accountability works.
Choosing where you shop is your call, but pretending a company endorses an employee’s criminal behaviour isn’t principle, it’s just misplaced blame.
Well said and bang on. I wish this ignorant “Enough is Enough” would just shut up. Him and his bloody “Numpties” get on my t*t’s. Surely, I can’t be the only person that feels this way?
Bless your cotton socks, another Numpty who doesn’t
like to hear the truth, so sad.
and if the people they employ break the law
then they dismiss them!
Simple, don’t be a Numpty all your life.
What a sad individual whose life revolves around commenting on every story to get self gratification over ramming their own views down everyones throat. Bet they get aroused everytime a story like this is reported. Keyboard warrior extraordinaire. Probably a virgin.
You must like my comments, otherwise why read them.
So you are a virgin, bless, you are a Numpty too!
Your “virgin” on the ridiculous, you prat.
Don’t tell me you are another sad Reformer who
cannot wait for Nige to come over next week
bet you are feeling orgasmic at the thought,
Bless
Might want to look around east Cowes as weed smoking and driving is pretty much the norm.
Most of the island smells of Cannabis, what went
wrong.
It used to be a beautiful safe place.
“what went wrong”.
I think they all got fed up reading your inane, verbal diarrhea-like, comments & took to drinking & smoking weed just to numb the pain
Why are there so many stupid numpties on the island!
Such a low population too, yet so many numpties,
must be the sea air!
Bless
Got it in one.
It’s not a game of golf.
The numpties you are describing probably cannot read,
so I doubt it very much.
If you know so much why don’t you report the people who’s offending to police ??
Another reason for commercial WORK vehicles to be left at WORK and not cluttering our residential areas at weekends and evenings. A terrible look for IFS and that idiot should lose his job immediately, along with an official apology from the company for our taxes spent policing one of their apparent employees.
Well said, no company vehicles should be left
parked along residential streets.
The Council should open car parks and make them
pay to leave their heaps parked up.
They cause accidents.
“They cause accidents.”
have you got any evidence or proof of that ??
No, of course you haven’t… just more made-up drivel from EiE
What about the drunk Numpty who crashed in
to 2 vehicles in the other article.
If they were not parked there they would not have been
hit.
Island roads and streets are full of parked vehicles
they should be in garages, car parks or drives.
IF NOT THEY SHOULD PAY ISLANDWIDE PARKING PERMIT
FEES!
“What about the drunk Numpty who crashed in to 2 vehicles in the other article”
was there any indication in the report that those were company vehicles ?
(as that’s what you claimed in your previous comment.. that “no company vehicles should be left parked along residential streets….They cause accidents”)
it seems you are so obsessed with your incoherent ranting, that you can’t even remember what you wrote from one comment to the next
ISLANDWIDE PARKING PERMITS WILL SOLVE THE PROBLEM
£250.00 A YEAR
LESS THAN £5 A WEEK, BARGAIN
CAN ADD THE CHARGE TO PERSONS COUNCIL TAX
JOB DONE
I wonder, would driver be insured by company if using vehicle for own use..?
Good point.
