All Year 5 pupils at The Bay Primary School in Sandown have been told to self-isolate following a confirmed case of COVID-19 within the school community.
In a letter to parents yesterday (Wednesday), the school’s senior leadership team said that the case had only been confirmed in the morning. As a precautionary measure, until thorough track and trace can be conducted, all Year 5 pupils should remain at home.
Although the children must now self-isolate, in accordance with national guidelines, other members of the household can continue normal activities, provided the child does not develop symptoms within the self-isolation period.
Affected children are expected to return to school on Friday 11th December.
All other year groups need to attend school as normal.

Shouldn’t the staff be doing the same aswell ?
Surely schools should close a week early to protect all the grandparents. Makes sense don’t it?
Perfect sense to me, then send them back earlier if necessary. That way they would have ten days away from a full class room to see if it had spread to others.
Whilst some will still mingle out of school with a few friends, that is a ‘choice’ not forced co habitation with 30 or more, every day.
You don’t necessarily have to have symptoms to be a carrier and spread it.
Anyone of any age can be a carrier, which is why even children should wear a mask.
