The Yarmouth RNLI All Weather Lifeboat (ALB) was called to assist a 26ft motor boat with engine failure in Christchurch Bay yesterday afternoon (Sunday).
The volunteer RNLI crew were tasked to launch the ALB at just after 14:30, but it was an hour before the lifeboat was alongside the casualty vessel as the search area was shrouded in dense fog with very limited visibility. Fortunately, the wind was very light and another vessel on the Solent assisted the lifeboat with communications in order to pin point the casualty’s position.
The motor boat was eventually taken in tow and, together with its four crew, arrived safely in Yarmouth after 3-and-a-half hours.
Apart from a minor injury to one of the lifeboat’s crew men sustained during the rescue, there were no other injuries.
