The Central Convenience Store in Wroxall, which has been threatened with legal action if it doesn’t get its act together, has received a 1-star food hygiene rating.
Inspectors from the Isle of Wight Council’s Environmental Health team paid a visit to the establishment of West Street in Wroxall on 30th November 2022, finding no fewer than 5 serious faults in the operation of the popular corner shop.
During the inspection, officers found that temperatures of hot and cold foodstuffs were not correctly monitored and that a tuna baguette that was meant to be chilled was in fact being stored at 8c, whilst warm meat-filled pastries had been left for 3 hours with no monitoring of their temperature taking place.
Those at the shop had been warned before on a previous visit about temperature monitoring with inspectors declaring failings this time as ‘once again non-compliant and inadequate’.
It was also noted that during the inspection, the 2 staff members that were on duty were unaware of where to find the Safer Food Better Business Pack – a key piece of food hygiene legislation.
There were issues with cleanliness at the premises too with a build of debris on the shelves and flooring as well as a rainwater pipe running internally into the room. The rainwater pipe had drinks bottles stored next to it also, which were at risk of physical contamination at the time due to the dirtiness and leaky nature of the pipe.
The final serious fault was that the ceiling in the rear preparation room was damaged meaning foodstuffs that were stored in there could have been susceptible to contamination by foreign matter.
Food Hygiene Rating – Scores on the doors
Compliance with food hygiene and safety procedures – 5
Compliance with structural requirements – 10
Confidence in management/control procedures – 20
Total score: 35 (1 rating)

Not a shock. The shop is always grubby and whenever i use the shop the staff are usually chatting to their friends..
