A woman who sustained a broken ankle on a coastal path between St Helens and Seaview prompted a callout for Coastguard and Lifeboat crews this afternoon (Sunday).
HM Coastguard received a call for assistance after the woman injured her limb on a cliff path in the vicinity of Nodes Point.
Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team was tasked to assist the woman and perform a medical evacuation.
Upon arriving at the scene and assessing the situation, including the available access routes to the casualty, Coastguard Officers made the decision that an evacuation by sea was the most appropriate option.
Bembridge RNLI lifeboat was then requested by Solent Coastguard, with the lifeboat volunteers being tasked to launch their D-Class inshore lifeboat.
Within a short time, the lifeboat had arrived at the shoreline near to the casualty’s position and Coastguard Rescue Officers transferred her from the cliff path into the care of the lifeboat crew.
After a swift journey at sea, the woman was finally handed to paramedic crews at Bembridge Lifeboat Station and taken to St Mary’s Hospital to be treated for her injuries.
