A woman has suffered burns to her arm after a major fire ripped through a row of bungalows in Newbridge this afternoon (Monday).
Firefighters from across the Isle of Wight were called to Main Road at around 13:00 following reports of a blaze in the roof space of the properties.
Multiple crews from Newport, Ryde, Cowes, Ventnor and Shanklin responded alongside the aerial ladder platform as thick smoke billowed across the area.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used hose reel jets to tackle flames that spread through the roof of the building, which consists of 4 bungalows.
Residents from the affected properties, as well as adjoining homes, were evacuated while emergency services worked to bring the incident under control. It has since been confirmed that 1 woman was treated for burns to her arm following the incident.
Appliances from the mainland were also drafted across the Solent to provide fire cover elsewhere on the Isle of Wight while local crews remained committed in Newbridge.
Crews remain on scene removing loose/damaged roof tiles from the property. The cause of the blaze isn’t yet known.
Main Road remains blocked.
