A woman in her 60s has suffered significant arm injuries after being attacked by a dog in Newport this afternoon (Saturday).
Officers were called at 13:13 this afternoon to a report of a dog fighting with another dog and biting it’s owner in a field off Godric Road, Pan.
It’s understood that the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service attended the scene to provide medical support to the owner who received injuries to her arm. She was taken to hospital for treatment, but her injuries are not thought to be life threatening.
The dog that bit the woman has been described as a Staffordshire Bull Terrier.
Hampshire Constabulary says that enquiries into this incident are ongoing.
Far Far to many irisponsible people own dogs, time owners received proper punishment for their arrogant uneducated behaviour..
Dogs have and will kill if they’re owners are not held to account. Sadly, the people that make the Laws are just as bad, ignorant and irisponsible…
No surprises to read staffordshire bull terrier! It nearly always is.
Sad your comment is actually true, but I do feel for those that have them for pets.
They are very powerful breads and owners must respect that, dogs are territorial and usually love there owners, however, they are high risk outside the pack..
Not a bad dog if raised and socialised correctly. Bad owners who encourage them to be vicious. These dogs are sadly still be used as a status symbol. The dog will pay with it’s life and the owner could go to prison which serves him right. Totally irresponsible and doesn’t deserve to own ANY dog.
No idea why my previous reply has been deleted. I know it is mainly the owners to blame, but there are people who have a certain breed purposely because they think it has a certain reputation. I saw one hateful man kick his staffie because a boxer dog went for it and his dog didn’t respond, horrible man, in ventnor a few years ago. Any genuine dog lover would just want their dog to be safe, not kick it when it had just been attacked, and they should be pleased it wasn’t the type to fight, but not him, typical thuggish type that will have a dog that they hope is going to be a fighter.
it has nothing to do with the dog breed it’s the idiots that own them. I have owned two staffordshire bull terriers an american bulldog and a boxer x american bulldog and i have never had a problem with any of them!
Sadly the people who make the laws will NEVER ever have to live amongst the dregs of humanity who have pets as protection for having to live in high crime areas as the worlds unwanted bring their ways to our once lovely Island. So the law makers and those who sentence such could not care less about the rest of us
We had a terrifying experience a couple of weeks ago. A Rottweiller shot out of its garden and unprovoked pinned our large, elderly dog to the ground with it’s jaws clamped around our dog’s back. If the dog had done the same to a small dog or a child then the outcome could have been very different. A couple of evenings later the Rottweiller was walking around the public field OFF the lead with the owners. The next evening the dog was in the back of a car being driven by one of the owners. It was going berserk and the car was rocking all over the road. We are now scared to walk up the road with our dogs and have no choice.
My lovely staffy was recently attacked by a Great Dane at the castle my arm was bitten too trying to get my dog released from its jaws.Vet told me if my dog had been any smaller she would have died. The police did nothing and the owner is still walking it without a lead or muzzle alongside her other 6 dogs also with no leads. It maybe a child next time
Stupid irresponsible owners. This dog sounds like a terrible accident waiting to happen. Inform the police and give them all the details you can.
Sounds like you need to talk to the Police.
Report it then?
In America theyd be shot, along with the owner. Win win.
Yes it is the dog owners. My staffie was attacked by a loose Yorkshire terrier causing numerous bleeding bite marks on her front legs. The owner just stood there letting it happen. When I picked it up by the back of its neck and threw it off my dog it still came back for more. I picked it up again and shoved it at the owner and told her to keep her bloody dog under control and she had the audacity to complain at the way I had treated her dog.
You can imagine the scenario for my dog is she had injured or killed that dog defending herself.
Yorkshire terriers are little rats, well done you for keeping your calm and not booting it into touch.
Why was the Stafford not MUZZLED? The owner knows his dog will react to other dogs. This dog will pay with its life now, having attacked the poor lady, dog on dog attack is bad enough, but when a dog attacks a human, the law has changed and now the dog will put to sleep and the owner could face a prison sentence for owning a dangerous dog. Think on people. If you own a vicious dog, muzzle it when you leave your house. Simple really. Not the dogs fault. You don’t get bad dogs, just bad owners.
I am the proud father of a Staffordshire bull terrier, it’s been attacked twice.
My vet told me to muzzle my dog to protect it from other dogs as Staffordshire terriers always get the blame.
This said there are 5 times more Staffordshire bull terriers than any other breed so stats would go greatly against its popularity.
Any dog can be viscious and a danger to other dogs or humans.
Like certain races of people, they ‘can’ of course be the victim, and when they are they get the most media attention, but more ‘often’ than not, they are the aggressor, hence the distrust by the majority, albeit now silenced of the masses.
I hear you brother…..x
