A woman in her 60s has received treatment in hospital for a bite to her hand following a dog attack in Newport this morning (Saturday).
The incident is said to have occurred in the Mews Lane area off Fairlee Road.
Island Echo understands that 2 loose dogs gained entry to a caravan and set upon another dog, which has since been checked over by the vets.
During the incident, a woman was bitten on the hand.
Police have been informed of the incident and have confirmed that enquiries are ongoing at this time.
It’s thought that both the owner and attacking dogs are known to the authorities.
Known to the authorities, means the owner is known to the Police and probably a right pain the ar*e. His dogs are probably vicious, aggressive and out of control, well if they weren’t before, they are now in that category.
The law doesn’t recognise dog on dog attack, but when a dog attacks a human, completely different ball game.
Poor dogs could very likely be put down. They didn’t ask to have a ‘bad’ owner.
It’s seems that this problem is getting worse. I have had my elderly Yellow Lab attacked three times in and around the Newport area over the last eighteen months by dogs that should be kept on a lead. On two occasions I have had to kick the dog of of mine, something I did not want to do but was necessary. The blame lies with the owner not the dog. It’s getting to a point where I will soon be wearing steel toe cap boots and carrying a fish priest every time I walk my dog as a way of protecting him.
