Wightlink’s catamaran service between Ryde and Portsmouth looks likely to be suspended from Christmas, according to those trying to book tickets for the end of the year.
It’s understood that the Fastcat service will once again be pulled due to an anticipated significant reduction in passenger numbers.
The Ryde Pier Head to Portsmouth Harbour route currently takes customers between Tier 1 and Tier 4, but it’s expected that the 25-minute crossing will be brought to a halt from 24th December.
Island Echo readers say that they are unable to see crossing times after Boxing Day when looking to book travel for work purposes.
Red Funnel have already announced a reduction in it’s vehicle ferry service between East Cowes and Southampton, but Wightlink are yet to make a formal announcement – as are Hovertravel.
The Isle of Wight Transport Infrastructure Board confirmed earlier today that service reductions were due to be announced shortly.




























































































TOOOO late
People have to get to work. It is already proving difficult with reduction in services. Commuting time is considerably longer and therefore they are at greater risk of getting COVID and bringing it back to the Island. Think before you expressing your views!
Had to collect up all the money from Tier 4s first….
It’s inevitable we are going to have another lockdown, why not do it on Boxing Day while all the kids are off anyway. As usual they will leave it too late, this new strain appears to be more infectious among children.
