Wightlink is to resume its Ryde Pier Head-Portsmouth Harbour FastCat service and weekend car ferry sailings between Yarmouth and Lymington – both from Saturday 5th December 2020.
This timetable will continue through the holiday season and into the New Year, the cross-Solent operator has announced.
Wightlink’s Chief Executive, Keith Greenfield, says:
“We have reviewed our services following the Government announcement that the Isle of Wight will be in Tier 1, with Hampshire and Portsmouth in Tier 2 of Covid-19 restrictions, when lockdown ends next week. I am pleased that the forecast demand for travel has allowed us to resume our suspended services from Saturday 5 December and we look forward to welcoming customers on board as they make their preparations for Christmas.
“Under the leadership of Isle of Wight Council, cross-Solent operators continue to work together during the pandemic to keep the Island connected and supplies moving.”
The first FastCat will leave Portsmouth Harbour on weekdays at 07:15 (07:47 from Ryde) and the last at 16:15 (16:47 from Ryde). Weekend services will begin an hour later and end with the 17:15 round-trip from Harbour. FastCat tickets will be accepted on Hovertravel services which will run earlier and later as well as on Wightlink car ferries.
The Yarmouth-Lymington car ferry timetable will continue to be amended to support Island students who need to attend classes on the mainland with the first sailing leaving Yarmouth at 07:30.
There will be extra sailings on the Portsmouth to Fishbourne car ferry route from Monday 21st December to Sunday 3rd January 2021 to provide extra capacity over the holiday season.

Let’s be sensible!
That’s great for the ferries to be putting on extra sails over Christmas .
So watch out island the mainland will be upon us spreading the virus on our safe island .
cant win can they. Suspend sailings during lockdowns and there is outcry.
Put sailings on and people moan about overners spreading the virus.
Not helping the regular commuters though who need the 625 from Yarmouth. Can get to work early but later is no good. NHS staff need the 625. Hope there will be a reduction in season ticket prices
They should but they won’t reduce prices probably put prices up
There will be no reduction, thay will make all who use Wightlink pay a very high price…
A fixed link does not need a time table. It’s open all the time, when we want it to be. And being a singular point of entry can be easily closed / policed when needs to be. I.e Stop all campavans / motorhomes. Check licence places, turn around non island residents. Easy to register people who work here.
Easy access to jobs on the mainland for the unemployed too.
A private owned ferries will let anyone in if they are paying.
“Easy access to jobs on the mainland for the unemployed too”? Not if it can be “easily closed” to non-mainland residents as a reciprocal measure. Try to understand, the Island is not a separate country, and we all have the right of freedom of movement, although this is not desirable at the current time. A fixed link will open the floodgates to who knows what.
A fixed link will open the floodgates for all the pikey travellers to come over & if that happens you’d better make sure that EVERY field has a locked gate, ALL horses are id chipped or freeze branded & all valuables are nailed to the ground!!
NO FIXED LINK WANTED HERE THANK YOU.
Sssshhhhh
Stay away from this Island unless you have to travel for work or hospital appointments. Already lots of people with second homes here. You were asked not to come here during last lock down. No one listened.
You again mention 2nd homes! well im sorry to report that anyone with a second home is legally entitled to stay there when they wish and certainly dont need any permission from any islander! I get a very very big impression of jealousy when people rant on about people and second homes! I suggest you sit by the ferries and watch all the islanders crossing each day to the mainland then ask! they must be bringing covid back! It makes me laugh people that blame others all the time! except themselves
Those of us who have grown up on the Island accept we have tourists, they come for holidays that’s what happens, I personally like the Island busy when the time is right. As for second home owners , l don’t think people are jealous why would we be, we live here all the time. The problem is at this moment in time they are being asked to stay away to keep others safe. What ever you believe about this virus is it really such a huge sacrifice to just stay at home and don’t travel.
Are you one of them by any chance? The guidance is simple and clear. Remain in your main residence. It’s not law,no,but advice to keep us all as safe as possible. Anyone who doesn’t realise this has a problem and are very selfish.
Once again Wightlink completely disregard the needs of lslanders.
Each crossing a potential cruel death for one of us.
All traveling should be forced to show a valid test certificate or don’t come.
Get a grip wag wan – this virus has a 99.98% survival rate overall – stop flapping and running round in circles with your “the end is nigh” sign around your neck
of the 1574566 positive UK cases 57031 have sadly died thats a 3.6% death rate.
3.6% plus your 99.98% =103.58% something is wrong – your survival rate.
death rate calc is deaths divided by cases times 100 to get a %
so 57031 divided by 1574566 multiplied by 100 = 3.622%
steve – you are using the wrong data = you must take the entire uk population, not just those recorded as positive – there are hundreds of thousands, if not millions of people who do not get tested, do not have many symptoms and carry on as normal
99.98% is correct when the right variables are used
you cannot know from the entire population who has survived the virus, or who has died without a test.
The only known variable is recorded tests, which put the death rate in the UK at 3.6%
Worldwide, the death rate is 3% – we are above average.
even taking into account ONS estimates of cases and deaths that have not been tested, the death rate does not dip below 3%
99.98% sounds like a number you have plucked out of thin air.
Please tell us what the UK population is, what estimate of the number of untested cases and deaths you are using, and how you have come to this clearly incorrect percentage.
Just in time for Covid carriers again, in time for Christmas… I can’t wait !!
People moaned when they got rid of the service now they’re moaning that it’s back?!?! Make up your minds people! Stop moaning for the sake of moaning!!
Im happy it’s back in action and is needed by so many! Well done wightlink!
welldone shite link, bring all the tier 2, over on booze trips how wonderfull.
a great way to spread the covid and line your pockets.
Close these jokers down, “they don’t care who they kill” as long as they get cash.
