Wight Wolves Ladies travelled to Gosport and Fareham for the second tournament of the Hampshire Touch League, teaming up with Aldershot & Fleet RUFC to field a joint squad despite being without a full team.
The Wolves brought together a mix of established players, one returning player, a second-time tournament participant and four A&F players.
The opening match saw the Wolves edge past Winchester RFC with a try in each half from Phoebe Tombleson against a single try from the opposition.
In their second game, the team faced a 2-0 defeat to New Milton RFC, who scored once in each half.
Gosport and Fareham were next, with a fast-paced contest on their home ground. G&F scored two early tries, but Wolves responded with first-half tries from Phoebe, Ace and Rachel. G&F added one more try after the break, but Wolves sealed a 5-3 win with a second try from Phoebe and a second from Rachel following an interception.
The match against Fordingbridge proved more difficult, with a single try from Rachel not enough to prevent a 5-1 loss.
Due to travel timing, the Wolves had taken a bye for the first round and went on to play the remaining matches back-to-back without a break. In the match against Farnborough, Jenny opened the scoring with a quick try in the first half. She went on to score two more in the second half, alongside 2 tries from Phoebe, securing a 5-0 victory.

The final match was against tournament leaders Andover RFC – usually the Wolves’ opening fixture. Despite limited subs, the Wolves’ strong defence held off their opponents for much of the first half, allowing only 2 tries. Phoebe broke through with a try in the final minutes, but Andover responded with 4 more in the second half to end the match 6-1.
The Wight Wolves finished 4th overall in the tournament and will return to action on Friday (22nd November) at Aldershot & Fleet.
The squad included Phoebe Tombleson (captain), Claire Mumford, Sam Anderson, Emma Victoria and junior player Ace. The team was led by coach Nathan Tombleson.
Sam Anderson was awarded the ‘Wolfiest Wolf’ honour, while Claire Mumford was named ‘Coach’s Player’.
