A yellow weather warning for strong winds and gales has been issued for the Isle of Wight.
The IW Met Service says that a fairly short spell of strong winds and heavy rain will cross the island tomorrow (Monday) morning between 03:00 and 09:00, peaking close to rush hour.
Southerly wind gusts of 40-50mph will be fairly widespread with occasional gusts of up to 55mph in more exposed parts of the south and west and this will combine with a spell of heavy rain for a time.
There is also the potential for a short lived wind episode between 07:00 and 09:00.
The IW Met Service isn’t expecting too many significant issues from the gales, however it’s expected that a lot of tree debris will be on the roads and walkways with leaves, twigs and possibly even the odd fallen small branch here and there.
The wet roads will also be especially slippery due to the lack of recent rainfall and this combined with tree debris may give some rather hazardous driving conditions in places.
Large waves are expected in southern and western parts of the island and small craft users should be aware of this throughout tomorrow, especially during the morning.
There may be a few delays or cancellations on cross Solent travel due to the wind.

Take note island drivers – slippery road surfaces. So slow down and adjust your driving and speed to the conditions on the road or we all know what will happen don’t we???
Nope, we shall speed up with a little use of the handbrake to make things exciting
