A man who raised just over £13,000 for Mountbatten Isle of Wight, by walking the Isle of Wight coastal path in memory of a friend, is to repeat his challenge this September – and you are invited to join or sponsor him.
In September 2025, over 4 days, Fred White led scores of walkers on the challenging Island Coastal Charity Walk, in honour of Islander Roy Denham, gathering an amazing £13,062.20 along the way.
The group started and finished at The Painters Arms in Cowes, covering nearly 70 miles. While some walkers took on a leg or 2 of the route, Pete Green, Matt Venables, Gerry Shaw and Mark Casson accompanied Fred all the way round, and they plan to do so again this year.
In Roy’s memory, Fred will again lead a team of fundraisers in support of Mountbatten’s 24/7 end-of-life care, 85% of which is delivered in people’s homes, with the rest through a specialist inpatient unit, and day services via the John Cheverton Centre in Newport.
Roy’s wife Jenny, and their children Amy and Tom, are also supporting the 2026 Island Coastal Charity Walk.
Fred White said:
“2025’s walk was amazing and the feel-good factor in Roy’s honour was off the scale. We loved it so much that we had to repeat the experience in 2026 and we can’t wait to take on the Island Coastal Charity Walk, to raise vital funds for Mountbatten Isle of Wight, which supported Roy and his family. Wish us luck and donate, if you can!”
