The Isle of Wight has yet to have official confirmation of a Gold medal at the Orkney 2025 Island Games.
However, there were 2 podium places for our competitors – both bronze medals.
Anna Showan took bronze for the Isle of Wight in the Badminton Women’s singles. In the round of 16, she beat Orkney Islander Gemma Foulis 21-12, 21-11. She then narrowly defeated Faroe Islander Bjarnhild í Buð Justinussen at the quarter final stage 22-20, 14-21, 23-21.
However, she then went down to Greenland’s Sara Jacobsen 16-21, 7-21 in the semi final.

Our 2nd bronze medal came in Athletics with Skyler Brown gaining a podium place in the shot put. Skyler threw 9.74metres to finish behind Linda Kivistik and Emma Saar – both from Saramaa – who threw 10.73 and 10.02 respectively.

Ellen Williams came 10th in the final of the Women’s 5,000metres in a time of 18:25.
In the swimming pool, the Isle of Wight’s Men’s 4 X 100m Medley Relay team – William Davidson, George Hayward, Harry Poynter and Benjamin Van der Helstraete – finished 5th in their final in a time of 4:03. The women’s 4 X 100m Freestyle team – Mylea Gobby, Isoble Muncaster, Grace Poynter and Skye Priede came 6th in their final – also in a time of 4:03.
In the individual swimming events, Benjamin Van der Helstraete was 5th in the final of Men’s 100m freestyle in 52.22; silver medallist George Hayward also came 5th in the 200m Backstroke in 2:08.
Cycling saw both men and women compete in road races. Charis Jones flew the flag for the Isle of Wight in the women’s event, finishing 8th in a time of 01:43. 5 Isle of Wight men took to the Orkney roads, with George Spooner in 5th place finishing fastest in 02:19.
The Isle of Wight golf team continued to impress on Day 5. The ladies – Sophie Beardsall, Lucy Burke, Caroline Johnson and Sammi Keen – remain in the gold medal position, 16 strokes ahead of 2nd-placed Gotland with just 1 round left to play. Sophie is in the silver medal position in the individual women’s event, just 1 stroke behind Åland’s Emma Lindman.
The Isle of Wight men’s team – George Foreman, Christopher Hayward, Conner Knight and Nathaniel Riddett – currently lie in the bronze medal spot, 20 strokes behind leaders Isle of Man. In the individual event, Nathaniel Riddett lies just outside the podium places in 4th, 1 stroke behind Orkney’s Steven Rendall in the bronze medal spot with 1 round left to play.
Sailing is the Isle of Wight’s most successful discipline, with the Isle of Wight likely to scoop all 3 gold medals available on the water.
Baring some unforseen disaster, Arthur Farley appears mathematically certain to take gold in the ILCA 7 event, having come 1st in 8 of the 9 races he has competed in to date. However, the result has yet to receive official confirmation.
Fellow Isle of Wight sailor Harry White – who beat Arthur in the 6th race – is currently lying 4th, 1 point off a bronze medal placing.

In ICLA 6, the Isle of Wight’s Oliver Mayo is in the gold medal spot having won 5 of his 7 races and is 11 points ahead of Menorca’s Ines Maria Abreu Garcia. His fellow Isle of Wight sailor Oliver Smith lies in 7th place.
The Isle of Wight also comfortably lead 2nd-placed Ynys Môn in the Sailing Team event by 42 points.
At the close of Day 5, the Isle of Wight are 16th in the medals table with 4 podium places: 2 silver and 2 bronze medals.
