A woman has been arrested on suspicion of arson and perverting the course of justice following last night’s garage fire in Ventnor.
As previously reported by Island Echo, emergency services were called to Spring Gardens at 18:50 to a report of a garage on fire. Multiple fire crews rushed to the scene alongside Police, arriving on scene at around 19:10.
A 39-year-old woman from Shanklin was treated by paramedics for smoke inhalation, with officials confirming there were 2 people involved in the incident but only 1 casualty.
Officers were last night searching the local area for a male wanted in connection with the incident. Island Echo understands that they were probing a potential offence of arson with intent to endanger life.
However, the investigation has moved on and it has now been confirmed that the 39-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of arson and committing an act/series of acts with intent to pervert the course of public justice.
Investigations into the exact circumstances of the incident are ongoing and officers will be in the area over the weekend conducting enquiries.

ha…it would appear that she has been caught in her own lies.
No man would burn his cave down.
If she is guilty she deserves a hefty punishment, what waste of Police resources whilst they are facing many other demands on their services on top of Covid.
Lenient sentences are of absolutely no use, the criminal minority need to face the consequences of their decision to break the law, and pay a high price. They are a disproportionate drain on our communities and our resources.
