A panel discussion on Children’s Rights will be held at the Sixth Form College in Nodehill on Tuesday (5th April).
The discussion forms part of Newport’s Year of the Child to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the death of Little Sweep Valentine Gray.
The aim of the discussion is to examine how far children’s rights have evolved over 200 years and what is still needed today, particularly on the question of child poverty. The panel guests are: Stuart Ashley, Deputy Director of Children’s Services for Hampshire County Council; Jess Green, Isle of Wight Youth Trust; Isaac Lethbridge, IoW member of the Youth Parliament 2019-22; the historian Roger Fruen; Cllr Vix Lowthion, Newport & Carisbrooke Community Council.
Entrance to the event at the Sixth Form College campus is free. The discussion is scheduled to take place between 17:00 and 19:00.
Later in the month – on 28th April – Quay Arts are hosting an accurate historical re-enactment of the Valentine Gray murder trial. The audience will be the jury and decides the verdict. The re-enactment starts at 19:30, tickets cost £10, and all proceeds will be donated to the IW Youth Trust.
