A late night flood warning has been issued by the Environment Agency for the Carisbrooke and Hunnyhill areas of Newport.
It’s said that in the past 6 hours alone some 26mm of rainfall has been recorded at Carisbrooke, with the water level in the Lukely Brook high and rising.
The large volume of rain in such a short period of time has led to the decision for a flood warning – the more serious form of a flood alert.
Locals are warned that the Aquatics Centre at Vicarage Walk near Foxes Road is expected to flood. Water levels will also be very high at Caesars Road and Old Westminster Lane, and the river could be out of bank, flooding roads and parked cars.
Both surface water and the river could flood into the road and affect the bottom of Castle Street.
Thankfully, most of the rain has now cleared the area which means that water levels should begin to fall early tomorrow morning (Thursday).
The Environment Agency says that it’s operational contractors are out in the area, making sure the river is kept free of blockages.
If you have it, install flood protection now.

If they dug the rivers out & kept the drains & ditches clear ,it would help,
Hopefully Island Roads will also be clearing the drains out that have been regularly blocked up like at Winchester House and Lake so they can cope with the next downpour.
I live on Lukely Brook, the water level is not that high, just at the level it should be and not empty like it usually is.
If beavers are introduced, how does that keep rivers clear
