Homes in Shanklin have been left in darkness tonight (Tuesday) as a result of an electrical fault in the area.
Scottish & Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) are aware of the fault, which occurred at 23:35.
Power is expected to be restored by 01:00 Wednesday morning.
According to SSEN’s affected postcode areas, North Road, Queens Road, East Mount Road, Samantha Court & Eastcliff Court on Crescent Road, as well as Atherley Road have all been left without supplies.
However, a number of residents are also reporting that other near-by roads have been affected including the High Street.
A spokesperson for SSEN has said:
“We’re sorry for the loss of supply. We currently have a fault affecting the areas listed.
“Our engineers are on site working hard to get the power back on as quickly as they can.
“If you need more information, please call us on 105 or send us a message on Facebook or Twitter (@ssencommunity) and quote reference ‘GY2211′”
UPDATE – Local contractors are understood to have struck an underground cable (pictured), resulting in the loss of power to nearby properties.
For further information about this power cut call the dedicated helpline by dialling 105.
Alternatively, you can send SSEN a message on Facebook or Twitter (@ssencommunity).
App: Did you know SSEN also have a mobile phone app where you can report, locate, track and subscribe to faults in your area?

I feel sorry for the people affected this cold evening… Solar Power seems to be great in daytime…
And po37 6dd is affected.
Po376df was ok
The ‘fault’ was caused by Wightfibre hitting a power cable!
At that time of night I very much doubt it. They are all tucked up in bed and certainly wouldn’t be drilling then
It was DEFINITELY caused by Wightfibre/their Contractors. The chap from SSE told my neighbour when they asked what had happened.
This ‘fault’ was the bunch of clowns Wightfibre use to dig up all the roads. No doubt the same inept crew that caused chaos all through Shanklin not long ago. Utterly useless
