A Transit van driver was caught drug driving after Police noticed his rear brake light was out, a court has heard.
Ashley Rolle, 42, of Harbors Lake Lane in Newchurch, admitted drug driving (cannabis) when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court earlier this week (14th January).
Munayah Hassan, prosecuting, told the court that on 19th June 2024, Police on Patrol in Newchurch had their attention drawn to a Ford Transit being driven with a brake light out.
Officers stopped the vehicle on Forest Road, Winford where the driver – Ashely Rolle – admitted to having smoked cannabis the evening before, a statement corroborated by the results of both a roadside drugs wipe and blood test at Newport Police Station.
The level of cannabis in Rolle’s system was 9.0ug/l – more than 4x the specified limit of 2.0ug/l.
Defending Rolle, Tom Cooke told the court that his client had seen Police in the local area but thought nothing about getting behind the wheel because he believed he was ‘okay’ to drive.
Magistrates handed the 42-year-old a 12-month driving ban and fined him £120. He was also ordered to pay costs of £85 and a £48 surcharge fee.
