It’s not surprising how dangerous it is walking in Newport To avoid people you have to walk in a road . And there should be no traffic going through your main town by law
No traffic, no trade.
Why, because people too lazy to walk from the car park?
Most research out there show a positive correlation, especially if you can add more places to eat outside. Closed streets during COVID are the easiest to grasp example.
This will be an interesting commute home… “Avoid the town centre” isn’t the Island designed so everything goes through the town?
What about I hope the pedestrian who was hit by the lorry wasn’t too badly injured and makes a full recovery?
Chill your beans Mike, pretty sure that goes without saying?
Obviously it doesn’t looking t first few comments on here… More concerned pressed t traffic conditions in muppet centrl@ “shame in you”!.
If a crash team has to come it’s a fatal crash
Wrong – get your facts correct before commenting
what about how is the lorry driver!! aswell he is just as important
Unfortunately this wont be case..without giving details and respecting the family at this time, it is a sad occasion
Do we know how bad the pedestrian was injured as there is no mention of them.
Indeed for years Newport has created a problem, it has become a hub for retailers and many businesses including industrial units all around the town and obviously our one and only hospital, with no thought for the road infrastructure or the massive amount of traffic including large vehicles, all of this means many other towns have/are being destroyed by lack of interest from business and retailers alike.
All this means Newport becomes a hub of activity for vehicles especially during rush hour. Todays incident is very sad and I wish all concerned the very best.
Sam I hope you found your way home and you didn’t have to get your mum to pick you up
so no indication on how the casualty is, hopefully will be on the mend soon, as apposed to you worrying about your commute home
I read on another persons comment the lady was killed on impact which explains the large turn out maybe
Wishing the person all the best
The reason for that amount of emergency services was because there was a person being resuscitated on the side of the road and from what I could see having to get off the bus it didn’t look good for who ever was involved and with town being full of people trying to get a closer look with their phones out exc the presence was needed and I’d say they were all doing as best as they could but you carry on taking the piss out of the situation when some one could have lost their life clown
“the modern fashion of going way over the top”…I do hope those directly involved in this incident and their friends and relatives never read the comments on this news piece.
i know the driver some of the comments are awful i hope both are doing okay as they can be
I was there, it was horrible absolutely horrible, I arrived there just after the accident
So did I I can’t believe how long it took them to corner off the area I walked round the corner and walked straight back round it and I’ll never forget it poor person and poor family hope you are doing okay xx
What an irresponsible set of comments, In the middle of a pedestrian area there has been a major incident with many people in the area. Please use your common sense. You do not know the details, but are critical of the response following details of a serious incident between a lorry and a pedestrian, if someone close to you as a pedestrian was involved I doubt you would want people carrying on as normal whilst they are being attended to.
In short show some respect!
Yeah show some respect wait before you speculate morons, I also saw it happen and for all you grim reapers there ain’t no happy ending.
Thoughts are for pedestrian and lorry driver . Why so many police, ambulance, fire etc for this poor pedestrian or is there more to this story to come?. There’s full CCTV at this junction so won’t take long for them to see what happened. I know CCTV is not monitored anymore but we were told it’s still recording for use in any crime or investigation.
The police were very rowdy about it all telling people to make their way without standing and staring which is understandable.. I hope the people involved are okay, the amount of people I’ve seen step out in front of cars in that spot is alarming and hope this gives some people common sense to wait until it is safe to cross
Thing is, we know how to make town centres more safe for people than what Newport currently exhibits, and by miles – we just choose not to. It’s not black magic: works like those of Jan Gehl have been assumed as best practices in urban and architectural circles since the 80s at least. We just prefer to stay lazy and prioritise car drivers convenience over safety and health (noise, pollution, anxiety due to safety) of all other users.
You absolute moron, show some respect.
