Five new beach huts could be installed on a picturesque Isle of Wight seafront.
Canice Holding Ltd has applied for planning permission to place 5 ‘sensitively designed’ huts with ‘traditional external finishes’ on land next to Pilots Point in Totland Bay.
The proposed wooden huts would be used to store beach items and for shelter during the day, according to a statement prepared by Canice Holding’s agent, Plan Research.
It says:
“Property owners in the beach area have been asked to contribute substantially towards the costs of sea defence work, as the Isle of Wight Council is no longer financially supporting sea defences at Totland Bay.
“The groynes at Totland Bay are now failing and ongoing income is required to save the promenade from being destroyed by the sea.
“Whilst we recognise that revenue from five new beach huts can only make a modest contribution annually, every little helps.
“The area of existing hardstanding where the proposed beach huts would be located is run down, and has been used as a dumping ground for skips and other waste.
“This proposal would enhance the area, as the site would need to be tidied in order for our client to rent out new beach huts.”
The council’s public consultation on the application finishes on June 16 and a decision has been scheduled for 7th July.
Or,in other words, the person that owns all of the seafront, not including the pier, all the flats, the waterfront restaurant etc, wants others to pay for what is wholly his responsibility, new groynes and sea defences.
this guy has so much money its ridiculous, but yet another case of lack of,or no preventative maintenance and he is now landed with a big bill, does he think a few “sheds” will pay for it?
bearing in mind all the flats down on the seafront are hideously expensive to rent, which is all free money as he owns it all outright
just utter greed, get someone else to pay while i protect my fortune.
“The area of existing hardstanding where the proposed beach huts would be located is run down, and has been used as a dumping ground for skips and other waste”
errrr yes, because the owner didn’t bother to clean it up. what with the regular burning of rubbish in one of the skips….
I know nothing about the land owner so cant comment on that but what I would like to know is do the Isle of Wight Council pay for any other sea defence around the Island .If so why are they not paying for Totland. I was always under the impression that the coast belonged to the Crown and therefore upkeep was payed for by the Council.ie tax payers.
Run down?
But you will need £3.500,000.00 to buy the pier which has just been put up for sale.
