Vecta Oddfellows is encouraging residents across the Isle of Wight to wave goodbye to winter by meeting new people and exploring the local area through a new season of social activities.
From scenic walks to day trips and relaxed get-togethers, the friendship group has organised a range of events throughout spring aimed at helping people connect and make the most of the brighter days.
Social Organiser, Penny-sue Wolfe, has said:
“There are so many incredible spots right on our doorstep, and as the days get brighter it’s the perfect time to get out and enjoy them.
“For many people, it can be hard to find others who share the same interests, whether that’s going for a walk, visiting a local café or simply getting out and about for the afternoon. Groups like ours give people the chance to do those things together.
“We’re a friendly, down-to-earth group and we always enjoy welcoming people who’d like to come along and see what we’re about. Often a simple walk or lunch can turn into a really enjoyable afternoon when you’re sharing it with others.”
The Isle of Wight group currently has around 235 members, most of whom are older adults. Regular activities include walks, day trips and meals at local restaurants, alongside coffee mornings, games, darts, bowling, line dancing, craft sessions, mindfulness and quizzes.
Upcoming events this spring include a Pie, Mash, Beer and Banter social at The Veteran in Ryde at 12:00 on Thursday 30th April. There is also a planned visit to Quarr Abbey, with an 11:00 meet-up in the car park for a walk, followed by the option to buy lunch or bring a picnic.
As well as attending events, members can access additional benefits such as care and welfare support, a travel club, and opportunities to volunteer and take part in fundraising initiatives.
The Oddfellows also hosts around 60 free online events each month, open to everyone, including a regular virtual open day for those interested in learning more about the friendship group.
