It was smooth sailing for 21 members of Wight Tri during the 3rd summer swim/run event at the Duver in St Helens on Friday evening (18th July).
Participants chose between a 200m or 400m swim around 2 orange buoys in warm, calm waters. Water safety marshals Elaine Spear and Neil Cooper were on hand in a kayak and on a bodyboard to ensure everyone stayed safe.
The race then transitioned into a run, with athletes tackling either a 2.9km or 5.1km route. The course began with a demanding climb to St Helens Green, pushing lungs and legs to the limit. However, the downhill stretch offered welcome relief. All runners completed the course safely.
Timing duties were carried out by Anne Dines, Martin Goodall and Sammy Stevens, with a clipboard, stopwatch, and scrap of paper. David Squirrell captured photos of the evening’s action.
A special mention goes to newcomer Tracey Sedman-Holdsworth, who completed the short course in 29:22 – just 22 seconds off her predicted time of 29 minutes.

The fastest times of the night went to Lucy Doorly, who completed the long course in 37:39, and Craig Wilson, who crossed the finish line in 29:33.
The next Wight Tri event is the Yaverland Aquabike on Friday (1st August) at 18:00.
