Shanklin’s Multiple Sclerosis shop in Regent Street recently welcomed national Chief Executive Nick Moberly, with volunteers on hand to highlight how income from the shop benefits local members, as well as contributed to life-changing research.
Group co-ordinator Paul Brading introduced Nick to Lyn Fairman who manages the shop, supports the volunteers and helps organise social events for members, as well as provides regular activities such as sailing on the Solent and an alternative therapy scheme.
Nick said:
“It was really good to see the positive difference that Lyn, Paul, and the team make to the lives of individuals living on the Island – the shop provides and innovative and inclusive model that we need to learn from nationally”.
Multiple Sclerosis is a condition of the central nervous system, with the body’s immune system attacking the brain and spinal cord by mistake, damaging the coating around nerve fibres.
Paul Brading concluded:
“Nick’s visit, at the start of Volunteers Week, was inspiring for our team of volunteers, highlighting the invaluable work on the Island, as well as how we contribute to best practise and research nationally”.
