Shanklin’s Jack Luscombe and David Williams have been thanked for their service to the town following an announcement that neither town councillor will be seeking re-election in next month’s local elections.
Cllr Luscombe has served on the Town Council for around 30 years since it was reformed in 1984. Cllr Williams has served for over 20 years, with both councillors completing a stint as Mayor for 2 years. The duo have been actively involved with community groups and as school governors over the years.
The current Mayor of Shanklin, Jon Gilbey said:
“Both Jack and David have served the Town with commitment and dedication, over many years, and have supported countless community initiatives and projects – they are a credit to their families and Shanklin, and we are grateful for the work they have done”.
Special commemorative plaques, designed by fellow Town Councillor Karl Stedman, were presented at a recent Annual Meeting. The meeting was also attended by former Mayors Steve Knight, John Fleming, Lynda Fleming, Denise Larner and Richard Priest.
Mayor Gilbey concluded:
“All Town and Parish Councillors give of their time freely, and for the good of the community they serve, and Jack and David are fine examples of this – we wish them well for their future”.
