A talented 13-year-old athlete from Cowes has been crowned the Under-14 National 200m Champion after winning gold at the Schools Athletics National Championships in Birmingham.
Harriet Willows produced 2 impressive performances at the prestigious event, held at Alexander Stadium, to secure the national title against some of the UK’s top young school athletes.
The Ryde School pupil won her qualifying heat in a time of 27.25 seconds before returning to clock 27.26 seconds in the final, taking gold in the Under-14 girls’ 200m.
The victory marks a major milestone for Harriet, who claimed bronze the last time she competed at the championships before setting herself the goal of winning gold this year.
Harriet has said:
“I am really proud to win gold! I won bronze at the nationals last time I competed and as my new year resolution I set out to get gold this time.”
Her latest success reflects the dedication she has shown in training and is a proud achievement for her family, Ryde School and her Isle of Wight athletics coaches.
The Schools Athletics National Championships bring together the highest-performing young athletes from schools across the UK, making Harriet’s victory a significant achievement for both her and the Isle of Wight.
