Coastguard Rescue Teams from Bembridge and Ventnor have been joined by Bembridge RNLI’s inshore lifeboat in a search of Culver Cliff this afternoon (Saturday).
The search and rescue operation has been sparked by concerns for an individual who was seen on the wrong side of a safety fence.
Coastguards are currently conducting a cliff top search at the most easterly point of the beauty spot, with safety equipment rigged to enable officers to peer over the edge.
Meanwhile, volunteer lifeboat crew from Bembridge RNLI are battling the elements to conduct a shoreline search between Whitecliff Bay and Yaverland to assist the efforts of coastguards at the top of the 300ft cliff.
UPDATE – With nothing found, the search has now been stood down.
It follows an extensive search which included lifeboat crew going ashore to check ledges under the cliff.
The lifeboat, which battled lively force 6 winds, was re-covered by 17:45.

The services were there to find someone in distress, well done, but no one found. No one complains the services just get on with it regardless of the weather. Those who read this perhaps could give the RNLI some support as they are volunteers.
Absolutely. Put their lives at risk, no pay. Didn’t see them recording tiktok videos during the pandemic either. These are true selfless heroes. Just saying.
