Police have cordoned off part of the seafront at Sandown tonight (Friday) following a road traffic collision in which a pedestrian has reportedly been struck by a car.
The incident, understood to involve a white Audi A1, has occurred on Culver Parade, between Avenue Road and Fort Street.
Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are on scene and are tending to the casualty, who is thought to have been hit by a moving vehicle at around 20:40.
The area has been sealed off as Police investigate the circumstances of the crash, which has occurred just 100 metres away from another road traffic collision on Avenue Road.
It’s understood the 2 crashes occurred within minutes of one another but at this early stage it is unknown if the 2 are connected – although it seems likely.
UPDATE @ 22:33 – 1 person has been rushed to hospital under blue lights and sirens, followed closely behind by Police and an operational commander from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
Numerous cordons remain in place as investigations continue.
UPDATE @ 22:54 – Island Echo understands that the 2 incidents are being treated as linked at this time.
Further cordons have been erected across the Avenue Road roundabout, with the Esplanade now closed preventing vehicles travelling up Avenue Road slipway onto the roundabout.
Hampshire Constabulary has been approached for a statement, with further updates expected on Saturday morning.

Watch the cars speed along Sandown Esplanade
THAT’S WHERE IT GOES WRONG
Seafront is not avenue road. Hope all
So basically the elderly driver hit a pedestrian didn’t even notice then went round the corner and hit a tree
In the evenings, I hear cars speeding up Lake Hill along Broadway and beyond until their loud exhausts disappear further down Broadway or they turn off the main road. The speeding is getting worse. These drivers have no respect for speed limits. Many more accidents will happen unless something is done to stop these idiots. Police cars need to be positioned in side roads, unseen. They will catch many drivers as they speed past!
The Island is LAWLESS
Not being at all over dramatic there then Jacob.
Chances are that it could of been yet another careless pensioner driver? Probably not, but Island roads are plagued by elderly drivers who are seemingly inept to the fundamentals of road safety. If it transpires that it was an elderly driver, then surely incidents like this can only lend support to the introduction of mandatory re-testing for drivers over 65.
If we are going with age grouping to incidents, I would bet any money that men between 17-25 have an extremely high accident rate. Therefore, by grouping age – we should also re-test all of these drivers too.
And we can go a step further – we can go by gender, and you’ll find that all men will need to re-take test because men are much more prone to incidents when driving than women.
Well put Marty. By extension and based on the fact that young drivers (of either gender) are six more times likely to be involved in a RTA or ‘incident’ ( balanced for numbers of each age grouping)) than drivers over 65, we should logically require all 17-25’s retake their tests and be given lessons in safe and considerate driving. Sorry to bring facts into the discussion, but they are all check-able. Comments please?
Why not just bring some discipline back to our education system. As it seems to me this is what happens after 40 years of no discipline in our schools. People just doing as they please. Weather driving or tipping there rubbish out of there car’s.
Point taken Marty but I feel this is the thin end of the wedge. Why not scrap the accumulated twelve points on a licence and an automatic ban and down grade people’s full driving licence to a provisional, regardless of age and gender. The problem being is the severity of the incident. Simply crashing into a tree shouldn’t carry the same penalty as death by dangerous driving.
But if it transpires to be something else, then you’ve jumped to conclusions like many others you absolute plonker.
Not sure how the incidents are connected as the car on the seafront was a white Audi and the car in Avenue Road appears to be a Skoda
What is going on in Sandown its bloody chaos over there lately. Police must be permanently there trying to keep control of all the bad behaviour over there. And they spend alot of time having to chase idiots on empty properties that shouldn’t be there. Police all need medals putting up with the terrible behaviour on the island . I’m actually embarrassed what’s going on the island . People need to get a grip .
More bad Audis on the Isle Of Wight
