The sea along a stretch of coastline in Ventnor has turned brown following a landslip in the area this morning (Monday).
As previously reported by Island Echo, torrential downpours have wreaked havoc across the Island, with 30mm of rain falling in just 2 hours in the Ryde area – with fears for a potential landslide at Ventnor Cascades prompted earlier.
Just along the coast, that fear has turned into a reality, with a section of cliff falling victim to the downpours and saturated ground. A small section of undergrowth and rockery has come free of the cliff between Ventnor and Bonchurch, with large amounts of mud running off into the sea.
Rocks and debris from the cliff fall have struck a boat parked on the sea wall despite the best efforts of a commercial lobster fisherman to move it. A second slip has rendered 2 boat engines significantly damaged and buried them under rocks and detritus.
Elsewhere on the Island, a Flood Warning has been issued for Ryde St Johns, and main roads have been blocked by torrents of water.

Why do folks film in ‘Portrait’ mode then post to ‘Landscape’ media?
Film on the edge of a cliff just after a landslide what a brilliant idea
Better than just before.
So weird. Nothing at all in Newport.
Picture does not show the extent of the landslide took all day lots of volunteers digger to finally free the fishing boat.
The sea in Ventnor turns ‘brown’ every night at 00,15hrs. Forty-five minutes after the pumps start up at the so called bandstand Rotunda. We locals call it Poo Palace for a good reason. That ain’t sun baked seaweed you folks are smelling all night, folks. Happy hollibobs!
