Waxham House Care Home in Ryde has been handed a 1-star food hygiene rating by the Isle of Wight Council following a recent inspection of the home’s facilities.
The care home, owned by Sanjay and Sandhya Ramdany, provides accommodation for persons who require nursing or personal care, including those with physical disabilities.
Environmental Health inspectors visited the property on 24th July and discovered a number of issues, including a failure to sanitise temperature probes and a risk of physical contamination; raw meat was found in the bottom of the fridge, stored next to ready-to-eat products on the same shelf.
It was also found that the kitchen fridge seal was split, the chest freezer in the outside store was leaking and the extraction filters were loose above the oven. Plastic jugs were stained and worn.
Inspectors also found that the home had failed to identify relevant hazards and any associated checks of procedures that are needed to make certain the food produced is safe. There was also a failure to put in place practices and procedures that would control potential problems, and document the above and any monitoring records.
The validity of checks was also called into question as inspectors noted that opening and closing checks on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday had been completed ahead of time. It’s said that this has allowed the inefficient operation of refrigerated equipment to go unnoticed.
Other paperwork-related issues were discovered too.
