Due to a change of use and ownership at their current ground, Rew Valley Youth Football Club are trying to raise just under £10,000 for their new proposed ground at Watcombe Bottom.
The club have acquired about 2 acres – or roughly 9680sq yards – of overgrown, unlevel land at the site of the old top pitch. This land has been left unused and untouched for over 15 years.
The money raised by a crowdfunding appeal will be used for extensive work to clear, excavate and level the site and spread topsoil and grass seed, as well as to build a shed for equipment so the children of Rew Valley Youth FC can use it to play their home fixtures.
If the £10,000 isn’t raised, the club will only be able to provide provisions for Under 8s and Under 9s meaning they could not cater for 60% of the club’s players which would see 43 budding footballers without a club to play for.
It is imperative that work starts as soon as possible to ensure a good playing surface in time for next season.
Jess Cutler of Rew Valley Youth FC said:
“Obviously this is not a situation we want to be in. Thats when it occurred to us… the amount we need to raise works out at about a pound per sq yard, or basically for every pound we raise a yards worth of work can be completed. Thus the ‘Give us a Yard Appeal’ was born!
“With the help of friends and family of the club, the people of Ventnor and the general public we are asking for your help to save our club and help us provide for all our teams. We are hoping you can help us build the new home of Rew Valley Youth FC and give something lasting to the children of Ventnor… One yard at a time”.
